Let’s meet the Stars — and their weirdly specific rocket-surgeon jobs.
MatchyGotchy™ happened because of Matchy Star™. While building Matchy Star, we realized these characters deserved a life of their own. That became the idea: let players interact with the Stars like virtual pets, right inside the Matchyverse™.
Matchy Star™ is the original character. He explores the Alpha System and meets the other Stars along the way. Early on, we just called them “gems” as part of match-3 design — but over time, they turned into full characters. Thanks to MatchyGotchy™, they became what they always were: Stars.
The Stars have a purpose: they want to grow up and become rocket surgeons. It’s that classic joke mashup of “rocket science” and “brain surgery” — but with our own Matchyverse™ twist.
As they grow, they reach full size, wear their outfits, and become more productive. In MatchyGotchy™, they need food, care, and attention — and yes, they can get sick, sleep, and even die if you neglect them (tamagotchi rules).
Originally we designed six actions: food/snacks, a left/right mini-game, cleaning, health, and selfies. Cycling these keeps your Star productive and happy. (Yes, selfies are important. They’re Stars.)
There are seven Stars, each with their own rocket-surgeon specialty. Let’s meet them:
Matchy Star™ — All-Dimensional Master Shipwright

Engineer extraordinaire. Armed with math and a trusty graphing calculator, Matchy is upbeat, nerdy, and dangerously enthusiastic — the kind of positivity that makes other Stars want to level up.
Spacey Galaxy — Dauntless Elegant Diplomat

Once negotiated a truce in the Klatu Nebula by sneezing at exactly the right moment. Spacey believes diplomacy is personal — including taking a galactic ruler’s space dog to the groomers in the name of peace.
Speedy Sputnik — Interstellar Shipment Manager

Knows every route through space and has absolutely used physics as a suggestion. Speedy once altered the speed of light for a few hours to deliver a package on time. Dreams of shipping for MatchyMart™.
Doctor UFO — Space Physician, MD

Graduated from the prestigious Space University of Medicine and Shoe Cobbling. Don’t be fooled by the derpy vibe — this doctor can diagnose many diseases by smell alone.
Pirate Planet — Mighty Booty Hunter

So grumpy that a single scowl can make enemies surrender valuables instantly. A noble pirate: only steals what they truly want, but definitely can’t afford.
Loony Lander — Quaint Alien Botanist

Discovered botany by planting a spare microchip that grew into a tree of tiny computers. Too small to use… but allegedly delicious.
Guru Moon — Astrological Forecast Specialist

Predicts supernatural coincidences for sport. Became a Guru by correctly forecasting the Space Bowl halftime show length five years in a row — down to the second.
